How Do You Identify a Skilled Laser Technician and a Reputable Clinic?

Don't be glamoured by cheap laser treatement prices--YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!

I am often asked how someone can tell whether a company truly provides effective laser treatments. I have a lot to say on this topic because it sits at the core of what is broken in this industry. Too many people are overcharged for weak, ineffective treatments or strung along with promises of “amazing results,” only to realize after 20, 25, or even 30+ sessions that those results are simply never coming. After years of observing the same patterns and hearing the same frustrations from clients who arrive from other clinics, a clear picture emerges.

Given the steady stream of consultations with people who have spent hundreds, and often thousands, of dollars on laser treatments that simply are not working, here are some practical things to ask and watch for when evaluating a laser clinic or technician.

In my opinion, here are the things to ask of your laser technicians BEFORE signing any contracts:

  1. What laser machine do you use?
  2. Does it require cooling gel?
  3. How qualified are the laser technicians performing these laser treatments?
  4. Will I get the same technician at every appointment?
  5. How long have the laser technicians worked in this clinic?
  6. How many sessions do you anticipate it will take to reduce down to 90% or fully eliminate these areas?
  7. Do you perform pre-shaving services?
  8. How long does a full body and individual body part take to complete?
  9. Will the results after 2 - 3 weeks be fully cleared or patchy? If I've paid 100% laser treatment, why would only a percentage of these areas treated?
  10. Do you have a requirement in the frequency I should be coming in? Will I need to sign an agreement that I will maintain this frequency?
  11. Are there any penalties should I not maintain a regular schedule?
  12. Do you sell single sessions or only multiple session packages?
  13. When performing a Brozilian laser treatment, do you treat the Buttocks fully (cheeks/crease) and the Groin fully (pelvis/shaft/testicles)? If not, why not?
  14. Are laser treatments different for male clients vs female clients performing the same areas?
  15. Do you turn up the settings every time I come in or maintain the same level throughout my treatment?
  16. Why would I not feel the laser treatment working?
  17. What if I'm not satisfied with the treatment results after 2 - 3 weeks? Is there a money back guarantee?
  18. Do you perform laser treatments in the summer?
  19. Do you perform post-laser treatments for grey, white, platnium or red hair that the laser cannot treat?
  20. Do you allow any other people in the room during my treatment, in case my partner wants to join me or give me moral support?
  21. Do you offer ice packs or breaks should the treatment be uncomfortable?
  22. Do you offer discounts or free treatments if I write a great Google review?
  23. Do you recommend numbing cream?

So we can be open and transparent about our services, we will answer the same for you below:

    1. What laser machine do you use?
      • SharpLight Omnimax with DPC HR 635 (extremely effective machine with highly successful results)
    2. Does it require cooling gel?
      • No because the handpiece has a cooling tip to balance out the heat from the pulses.
    3. How qualified are the laser technicians performing these laser treatments?
      • Our male technician was certified in 2013 and performs laser treatments almost every day, completing thousands of body parts.
    4. Will I get the same technician at every appointment?
      • You will also get the same technician, who will know your treatment detail, history, sensitive areas, pain/fear thresholds, not to mention, developing a great, long-term relationship, which helps put you at ease to ensures the same excellent, premium professional treatment each and every time.
    5. How long have the laser technicians worked in this clinic?
      • Since the company was opened in 2013.
    6. How many sessions do you anticipate it will take to reduce down to 90% or fully eliminate these areas?
      • While it is difficult to define or estimate exact outcomes due to the many variables involved, even after the first treatment there is typically noticeable reduction, without patchiness. With consistent, properly timed treatments, most clients see up to 90 percent reduction within six to eight sessions.
      • Complete elimination may require additional sessions, and electrolysis can be used to permanently remove any hair that cannot be effectively treated by laser or proves stubborn to respond.
    7. Do you perform pre-shaving services?
      • Yes! For a small fee and extended appointment, we can perform the full pre-shave and then proceed with the laser treatment thereafter.
    8. How long does a full body and individual body part take to complete?
      • A full back treatment typically takes approximately 1-hour. With additional sessions, this time may increase as we work more deliberately to maintain treatment quality and consistency.
      • A full body treatment can easily take up to 6-hours to complete. This is by design. We are meticulous and fastidious in our approach because we value our clients and insist on thorough, methodical treatments every time. Our priority is not speed, but accuracy, coverage, and results, so clients receive full value for every treatment they pay for.
      • Shaving services extend the laser treatments and incurs a small service fee.
    9. Will the results after 2 - 3 weeks be fully cleared or patchy? If I've paid 100% laser treatment, why would only a percentage of these areas treated?
      • Results will never be patchy. Patchiness is a clear sign of partial or incomplete treatment, and subpar treatments are something we will never perform. If any areas are ever missed, clients are strongly encouraged to return within two weeks so those areas can be treated and brought back into the same laser treatment cycle as the rest of the body part.
      • We fully agree, wholeheartedly. There is no reason a client should live with patchy results after paying for a complete treatment. If you pay 100%, you receive 100% laser treatment, each and every very time.
    10. Do you have a requirement in the frequency I should be coming in? Will I need to sign an agreement that I will maintain this frequency?
      • Our rule of thumb is simple: return when all areas of the treated region begin to grow back. Because treatments are never patchy, this usually means about two months between sessions in the early stages. As treatment progresses, hair growth becomes increasingly stunted and delayed, so intervals naturally extend to two to three months, then four to five months, and sometimes longer.
      • In some cases, clients are asked to come in one to two weeks later if certain areas are still bald. Why? Treating too early wastes a session when some follicles are not yet active. We respect our clients’ time and wallets, and we schedule treatments only when they can deliver maximum effectiveness. Every session is timed to perform at its best.
    11. Are there any penalties should I not maintain a regular schedule?
      • We do not penalize clients for irregular schedules. Life happens. Work, family, relationships, and personal responsibilities often take priority, and we continue treatment whenever it is feasible for the client.
      • That said, the body is always trying to repair and recover. If too much time passes between sessions, hair growth can regain momentum and some of the progress already achieved may be reduced. There is a balance. Waiting long enough between appointments is important, but waiting too long can slow overall results.
      • We always accommodate clients with demanding or sensitive schedules while keeping them informed so they can make the best decisions for their time, their progress, and their investment.
    12. Do you sell single sessions or only multiple session packages?
      • We never push packages. Budget decisions are always left to the client.
      • In fact, we encourage new clients to start with a single session first. If they are fully satisfied with the results, they can then choose a more economical option by purchasing a package or simply continuing session by session. The choice is always theirs, based on comfort, results, and budget.
    13. When performing a Brozilian laser treatment, do you treat the Buttocks fully (cheeks/crease) and the Groin fully (pelvis/shaft/testicles)? If not, why not?
      • There is no area that cannot be treated during a full Brazilian for any gender, unless a client specifically wants to leave hair for shaping such as landing strips, arrows, or even initials. Yes, this does happen and very good at it too!
      • These treatments are very safe. The only potential consideration for men is a temporary reduction in sperm count due to heat exposure. This effect is short term and comparable to many everyday situations where sperm cells are naturally lost. It is only a relevant concern for men who are actively trying to conceive, as a temporarily reduced sperm count may make that process more difficult during that window but otherwise, a very safe treatment.
    14. Are laser treatments different for male clients vs female clients performing the same areas?
      • Unlike other clinics, what is good for the gander is also good for the goose! We do not discriminate.
      • While some clinics maintain strict policies that limit or exclude certain services for men that they readily offer to women, we see no valid reason for that distinction. Everyone is treated with the same premium level of care, professionalism, and respect, regardless of gender.
    15. Do you turn up the settings every time I come in or maintain the same level throughout my treatment?
      • Some clinics keep laser settings low or moderate and never increase them. You may even hear the phrase “pain free laser treatment.” The reality is simple. If you do not feel it working, it is likely not working and you can expect to have session packages pushed onto you.
      • We begin at a moderate, safe setting. As treatments progress, hair becomes thinner, sparser, and less dense. To accelerate results, we gradually increase the settings by one level at a time until one of two things happens. Either the sensation becomes too uncomfortable for you, or a small, superficial burn occurs. This heals very quickly, much like a mild sunburn, and tells us we have reached your personal threshold. At that point, we either lower the setting or adjust it for that specific area.
      • This approach is intentional. Maintaining the same low or moderate settings can stretch treatment plans to 12 or 15 sessions or more. Properly escalating settings often cuts that number in half. Fewer sessions mean faster results and more money staying in your pocket.
    16. Why would I not feel the laser treatment working?
      • Put simply, the machine is not set high enough to properly treat the hair. Laser treatment works by delivering controlled thermal trauma to the hair root, which is why a burning sensation is expected.
      • When treatment intensity is inadequate, the follicle is not damaged enough and can instead be stimulated, leading to increased hair growth rather than reduction. That is the exact opposite of the intended outcome.
    17. What if I'm not satisfied with the treatment results after 2 - 3 weeks? Is there a money back guarantee?
      • I am confident that no clinic offers a true money back guarantee, simply because results vary from person to person. That said, every service we provide is delivered with the highest level of care and expertise, and to date we have not encountered a client who was dissatisfied even after their very first session. It is this results driven, transparent approach to hair removal that earns long term client loyalty, often lasting for years, until the day we no longer see them because they have achieved their hair removal goals.
    18. Do you perform laser treatments in the summer?
      • Some clinics offer laser treatments year round, but personal experience taught me an important lesson early on. Many years ago, before becoming a medical esthetician, I suffered severe burns on my legs after purchasing a deeply discounted summer laser treatment Groupon. The result was nearly a full year of hyperpigmentation and many weeks of pain and discomfort.
      • Because of this, I am very cautious when advising clients on timing and treatment areas. Certain regions, such as underarms and Brozilian areas, are usually concealed from sun exposure and are therefore very safe to treat year round. Areas like the chest, back, arms, and legs are different. I only recommend treating these if clients can reliably avoid sun exposure for weeks before and after treatment. Even then, I strongly prefer completing most laser sessions during the winter months. This approach allows clients to be smooth and hair free throughout the summer, without risking burns or pigmentation issues.
      • I would caution anyone to be wary of clinics that perform laser treatments so readily without providing all necessary precautions, guidance, and education beforehand.
    19. Do you perform post-laser treatments for grey, white, platinum or red hair that the laser cannot treat?
      • We are a full spectrum clinic, meaning we can provide complete end to end care.
      • This includes pre shaving guidance, laser treatment, and all post treatment services such as electrolysis to eliminate grey, white, red, or otherwise stubborn hairs. The result is the smoothest skin you envisioned, without gaps or compromises.
    20. Do you allow any other people in the room during my treatment, in case my partner wants to join me or give me moral support?
      • We understand that this can be an uncomfortable experience, especially during a first session. For that reason, we allow one support person to be present to offer encouragement and reassurance. They will be provided with the same protective laser eyewear, and we offer a comfortable armchair and a large television so they can relax while keeping you company.
    21. Do you offer ice packs or breaks should the treatment be uncomfortable?
      • Yes, we do. We understand that the process can be uncomfortable, especially because we do not keep settings so low that you feel nothing. For that reason, we have installed a freezer in the clinic stocked with a variety of ice packs to help dull discomfort as needed.
      • We also build in micro breaks throughout your appointment so you can take bathroom breaks or short breathers when necessary. This is particularly important because our sessions are often significantly more thorough than what many other laser clinics offer for the same service. Our goal is to get you through the treatment in the most manageable way possible, because the results will be far more impressive than you might expect.
    22. Do you offer discounts or free treatments if I write a great Google review?
      • Never. We do not ever incentivize reviews. That choice adds integrity to the feedback our clients voluntarily provide. We are proud of our work, and our reviews are earned, not exchanged. They serve as genuine validation that we are meeting and exceeding expectations.
      • If you ever encounter a company offering incentives for Google reviews, caution is warranted. Incentivized reviews may not accurately reflect the quality of the services being delivered. One client shared that after repeatedly expressing dissatisfaction with ongoing lacklustre treatments elsewhere, they were offered free laser sessions in exchange for a positive Google review. That clinic had accumulated over 100 glowing reviews, which raises an important question. How many of those reviews were earned through results, and how many were effectively purchased with free treatments.
    23. Do you recommend numbing cream?
      • You must be very cautious with numbing cream. It needs to be applied at least one hour in advance, covered with plastic wrap, and kept in place so it is not rubbed off by clothing before your appointment.
      • You should note that anyone providing numbing cream immediately before the appointment is ineffective as it won't have sufficient time to numb the area before the start of the laser treatment.
      • It is also important to carefully read and follow the product’s care and usage instructions, as these provide specific directions for safe and effective use.

Be patient. Do your homework. Read between the lines. Ask direct questions and trust your gut, even if it is hairy!

Whatever you do, never rush into a long term contract without fully understanding what you are signing up for. Not every technician or clinic has your best interest in mind. Some are focused on how many packages they can milk out of you, and that is the brutal truth of this industry.

Not all clinics are created equal, and not all technicians are trained the same or genuinely care about your results, your investment, or whether you reach your hair reduction or elimination goals. Once you commit to a clinic, it can be difficult to walk away if the results are not what you were promised or expected. Pay attention to red flags, and when in doubt, get a second opinion.

If you have any questions about our laser treatments, technican or any other services we offer, you can book a call or an in person appointment for a FREE consultation. We also encourage you to read our glowing Google Reviews to see what other clients have to say!
